Cap the Rent: Public Testimony Workshop
February 9, 2023 | 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

RSVP: https://actionnetwork.org/events/cap-the-rent-public-testimony-workshop-2/
Every voice counts in the fight to pass SB 138 to cap annual rent increases at 2.5% and end no-cause evictions. The real estate lobby has money, but millions of dollars is no match for the power of people acting collectively. Together—whether homeowner or renter, across race, class, and zip code—we’re going to show our state elected officials that rent stabilization NOW is the will of the people of Connecticut.
The date of the public hearing for SB 138 will only be announced 5 days in advance. It could happen anytime from mid February to early March. For maximum impact, we must be prepared ahead of time, with our testimonies already written and rehearsed, so that we can show up in numbers at the Capitol in Hartford and powerfully combine our voices.
Public testimonies are 3 minutes in length and can be given in person or online.
Why do you support Cap the Rent and housing stability for all? What's your housing story? Join us online to workshop your public testimony with help from seasoned movement leaders.

Cap the Rent Story Slam
February 11, 2023 | 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Q House (Dixwell Community House), 197 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511RSVP here: https://actionnetwork.org/events/cap-the-rent-story-slam
When the demands of our Cap the Rent campaign are raised for a public hearing at the Capitol, it will be a battle for the story we tell about people, power, and profit as they relate to housing. Landlords will tell a story about lazy tenants and the supposedly dire consequences of regulating rent. We will tell a different story: about dignity, empowerment, stability, and community.
Why do you support Cap the Rent? What's your housing story?
Join us for a "story slam," a chance to share our stories with each other first, before we share them at the Capitol. Just like at a public hearing, each speaker will have 3 minutes to speak about why we need a cap on rent and an end to no-fault evictions. This will be a supportive and creative space to practice our public testimonies with each other and to hear from a diversity of community members about why we need housing stability for all.
